Veepam Poo Chutney/ Neem Flower Chutney

Ingredients

Neem flower - one palm full

Red chilies - 10

Tamarind - lemon size

Ginger - 4 piece

Chana dal/Kadalai Paruppu - 2 tea spoon

Urad dal/ulutham paruppu - 2 tea spoon

Oil/ ghee

Coconut

Salt as required


Method of preparations


1. In a pan add a tablespoon of oil/ghee and add neem flower/vepam poo and saute until the flower turns golden brown and remove from pan keep aside.


2. In the same pan heat the oil/ghee add urad dal, chana dal, red chilies, garlic, small piece of ginger, and salt as required. Saute until the dal turns into the golden brown and switch off the stove and leave it to cool. and add chopped coconut and tamarind.


3. Once it cool grinds the roasted neem flower with the roasted ingredients to a slightly coarse paste.


4. Turn on the stove and In a pan add a tablespoon of oil/ghee add mustard seeds, curry leaves, urad dal, then add the ground paste in the pan and saute it becoming a thick paste.


5. Serve with hot rice and sesame oil/ ghee.

We usually in summer collect neem flowers from the tree. In summer We spread the clean cloth under the neem tree 🍃. Then we collect all those neem flowers and clean it and dry at sunlight. And stored at the airtight container.
