Hi dudes, after a long gap meeting you all with a new blog post one of our Authentic Recipe of Salem district Tamilnadu. Today is an Aadi festival, Aadi 1 is one of our traditional Tamilnadu festivals, Especially In Salem, Tamilnadu celebrates this festival by firing the stuffed coconut in the fire. Of course, I'm from Salem I love this recipe and festival. Many of you may not aware of these recipes and festivals. So here, I'll share this recipe.

Ingredients:

Coconut - 2Nos

Wooden stick - 2Nos

Coconut water

Poha/Aval

Jaggery/ vellam

Gram dal/ pottukadalai

Moong dal

Sesame seeds

Method of Preparation:

1. Take Two coconuts and clean them and remove the fiber and rub the coconut well on the hard surface, remove the fiber completely to make it smooth.

2. After smoothening the coconut wash well it in pure water, and see three eyes on the bottom, pierce one eye with a sharp tool and make a hole. Invert the coconut water over the bowl and collect all the water, keep it aside.

3. Take a bowl and add poha/ Aval, pottukadalai/ gram dal, sesame seeds, Moong Dall, and Jaggery. Mix well all those ingredients and keep them aside.

4. Now take the pierce coconut, inside the hole, stuff the mixed ingredients using fingers, It takes more time to stuff the ingredient in it. When you need to use a sharp tool for stuffing inside the coconut through the hole. Also, add some coconut water little by little while stuffing the mixed ingredients into it. At one stage the coconut water will come out, now you stop filling it.

5. Insert the strong wooden stick with sharp edges to fit into the coconut, seal the top with some turmeric, apply the turmeric all over it, and also put some kumkum wherever needed. And let it sit for two hours. Before firing check whether the coconut and stick correctly fit into it.

6. Fire the coconut on high flame, and turn it all over for even cooking otherwise the stuffing won't cook completely. While firing, the outer shell will burn and crack also it gives a nice aroma, it should turn black, in this stage stop roasting the coconut and remove it from the fire. Keep aside to cool

7. In the evening after cooking the coconut, we offer it to God, especially for vinayagar/ Amman, and pray for all our wishes to come true.

8. After our prayers break the coconut, remove the shell, and then share it with family and neighbors around.

9. This festival and recipes are following from my childhoods.
